Please Donate to Haitian Community Hospital
If you're looking for a way to give money directly to a hospital in Haiti, please consider donating to the Haitian Community Hospital.
"The Haitian Community Hospital or Hôpital de la Communauté Haitienne is a 50 bed hospital in Petionville, a suburb of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It has the only Intensive Care Unit in the city. It is a small poor hospital with a lot of heart. It was started by and is run by Haitians. It is one of the few hospitals all Haitians can afford. It is a labour of love and hard work by many Haitians in the community of Petionville and Freres."
The hospital is run by my friend Daphne's family and if you go to their web site, you can donate directly to it via credit card.
Daphne was interviewed yesterday by Chicago's NBC affiliate about the hospital and what it needs. The NBC description says the hospital was damaged but that is NOT true. The building is sound but they need supplies.
You can also follow Haitian Community Hospital on Facebook for updates on their situation.
I've known Daphne for almost 20 years and she's one of my dearest friends. My youngest son is madly in love with one of her daughters so who knows, maybe we'll be related for real one day. But even if that never happens, her family has been immeasurably kind to me. The moment I heard about the earthquake, I thought of her extended family still in Haiti. It's a miracle her relatives there are alright. And now they are doing their best to continue doing what they've been doing for 30 years - serving their Haitian brothers and sisters via the hospital.
It doesn't matter how much you give - even if all you have is a dollar to give - please consider giving something to the hospital. Your donation WILL be put to good use.
Please feel free to share the information about the hospital with everyone you know. It is GREATLY appreciated.
