My Suave Girlfriends Get Together

I love hanging out with my girlfriends here in Los Angeles. I know some really gorgeous, smart, funny and down-to-earth ladies and I always have a great time when I'm around them.

So when Suave approached me and said they'd love to co-sponsor a little girlfriends get together for me and a few of my friends so we could check out some their new body washes and lotions, I figured, why not?

I am, like a lot of natural haired ladies, a BIG fan of Suave's Tropical Coconut conditioner. I rarely use shampoo on my hair anymore. I just wash it with tons of this conditioner every few days. Seriously, if Suave ever stops making this conditioner, they're going to have a bunch of very annoyed natural-haired black women on their hands.

I was glad to have an excuse to get together and see my fabulous ladies. However, these ladies are also all super successful and CRAZY busy so finding a time for us to get together was next to impossible!

I wanted to get us together back in June but I couldn't find a weekend where enough of us could make it. Then I was gone for all of July, so we didn't get together till this past weekend.

We had a bunch of snacks, talked smack about Tiny, Toya and lots of other ridiculousness in pop culture -- and we sniffed the bodywashes and slathered on the lotions.

As far as the body washes go, These have been in my shower for a couple of weeks now and none of the male members of my house will use them. There have been complaints from my kids about not wanting to smell like a bunch of flowers and, "Eww, those are for girls!" That's fine! I don't mind the complaints because it's sort of nice to have something of my own that everybody else in the house isn't using up.

At my little get together, I preferred the scent of the Apricot Exfoliating bodywash but the Wild Cherry Blossom had some fans as well.

But the nice thing about these body washes is that they aren't almost $7 a bottle like some other drugstore body washes out there. I mean, really, it's a recession and this is SOAP! Some of these companies can't come down on the prices a little? Don't they know about being on a budget?

Yeah, it's nice to know I can pick up a body wash for a little under $3 -- and even though it's a cheap price, it's not a "cheap" product, if you know what I mean.

I also have to give a thumbs up to the Cocoa Butter and Shea lotion and I wouldn't say it if it wasn't pretty good. You see, I have really dry skin and living in Los Angeles doesn't help things. I'm always fighting lizard skin.

No, I can't just put this lotion on in the morning and then not put on any more for the entire day. But remember, I live in what's essentially an artificially hydrated desert. I keep tubes of lotion in my bag at all times because my name is not Flavor Flav I am NOT a fan of ashy elbows or hands. The lotion also has a nice smell-- which does not overpower the scent of my Chanel perfume, thank you very much!

Nice smelling lotions and body washes aside, the best thing was that I got to hang out with these fantastic ladies that I love so much but don't see enough. I think I smiled during the rest of the evening after they left because it made me so happy to catch up with everybody. So, if you haven't seen your friends in awhile, stop being so busy and get together with them! Trust me, it's worth it!

I didn't know other natural black women loved their Coconut conditioner too! I swear by that stuff. I dump half a bottle in my head and scrub and it's heavenly.
I was chosen to host this party, too, and my favorite product was the Ocean body wash. It's just a nice, clean, crisp scent. The downside is my husband likes it too!

Elita,
Yep, I first found out about the conditioner by hanging out over at the Nappturality site so I think there are a lot of folks who use it.

The Ocean bodywash is nice, too, but I really like that apricot one and I like that my husband doesn't use it up!

By the way, nice blog that you have! I nursed one of my sons for 19 months and the other for three years so kudos for trying to support other black women doing so!

Lola,
Yes, try it. It works b/c I don't use a lot of styling products that build up so I don't really need to wash a lot of crap off of my hair. But, I also do apple cider vinegar rinses every once in awhile. Those work better than ANY clarifying shampoo and don't leave your hair feeling stripped.
