When Your To-Do List Is Too Massive And Your Head's About To Explode
How's that for a blog post title?
Yeah, I should be in bed. Instead, I'm busy looking at my to-do list... which is why I can give you my first-hand expert opinion that to-do list analysis is the WRONG thing "to do" when it's almost midnight. The only thing that should be on my horizon is going to bed.
Unfortunately, I can't do that because "Write on blog today or ELSE" is on my to-do list.
I crossed off a bunch of other things today, but sadly, not enough of the "big" things. I'm sure someone somewhere is annoyed with me because I'm behind on a few things. Eh, I really feel bad. I feel guilty. But I'm brain dead and, in case you didn't notice the title of this post, my head's about to explode.
I'm sure there's some organizational guru somewhere that would say I subconsciously avoid completing the really big tasks. I'm fearful of success. Or, I have issues with time management. Or maybe I'm a rebellious, lazy, good for nothing Gen X slacker that's going to single-handedly destroy Social Security with my completely unproductive ways.
The real deal? How about I tell you a sob story about needing a vacation, working full-time, having two kids, managing a seriously rambunctious puppy named Andromeda and... let's not forget the slob cleanliness challenged person I am married to. His definition of clean in no way aligns with mine -- I could tell many many tales about our mismatch in that regard, but you are spared the agony since telling those tales is not on my to-do list for today.
If you're one of those people who runs out and buys special list-making pens, makes symbols in the margins of your special list-y notebook or assigns letters to the things that are most important, good for you.
Yep, go ahead and eat your hero cookie - and then I welcome you to add some of the things from my list to your list and you can cross them off for me. How about you take "respond to jury duty summons" and "schedule MRI" off my plate? Thanx.
Now I'm going to exhale and cross "Write on blog today or ELSE" off my to-do list. I feel so accomplished.
