Why I Went To Work Even Though I Felt Feel Like Ishtar

I wish I could use the past tense but I'm a hot mess right now. I'm trying to convince myself that I'm not, but my influencing and motivating powers suck right now. And you should be glad that there's no accompanying image for this post.

What do you do when you have kids and you work outside the home and you're sick? If you're me, you take your behind to work, that's what you do. Actually, this morning I took my kids to school, dropped my puppy at the vet so she could get fixed, and then drove to work. Busy morning!

Why not stay home? I've learned that when you're a walking germ incubator, mom, you go to work even though you have aches, chills, fever, nausea, sinus pain, sneezing and a runny nose because you know your sick days are not reserved for you being sick. Sick days are reserved for when your child is sick.

Me being sick means downing garlic cloves and DayQuil. My kids being sick, that is when I stay home.

Except... I went to work and 20 minutes later I barfed in the bathroom... which meant that I went home and worked from home because I'm a workaholic that doesn't know when to shut it down I'm dedicated like that. Funny how sometimes the body does not care about what's on the schedule. Who cares if I have lots of work to do, a concert to go to on Friday night, the Los Angeles Rock-n-Roll half marathon to run on Sunday and another show to go to on Sunday night? Germs don't care about any of that!

Sigh. Everything you've read up till this point was typed around 9 p.m. before I passed out on the couch. Now it's 4:00 in the morning and I'm dealing with miserable, just-spayed Andromeda the puppy. I think she's probably feeling a LOT worse than me. Here's to a better tomorrow for both of us!

Ah, poor baby. I don't know what to say other than you have my sympathies and empathy, having just gone through this a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately, I had the privilege of getting to stay home. Just remember, this too shall pass.

Thanks, Ian. I am hoping a whole lot passes these days. :(

Hope you're feeling better. I know exactly what you mean. The only time I stay home for myself is when my back gives out and the pain meds make me too loopy to do anyone any good. Blessedly my son is old enough to help take care of *me* on those days.

Tis the season to start upping the Vitamin C, zinc, echinacea, and become a handwashing-Nazi with yourself and your kids. My daughter brings home so many germs, first month of school was horrible and teacher said send them unless they have a fever. Anything to get those Federal and State dollars.

Ok, done ranting on your blog, sorry.

Truly hope you got some much needed rest over the weekend.
