Dear Hurts: How About A Trip To Los Angeles?

What do you do when you're totally in love with a new band from Manchester, UK called Hurts and you see no signs of a U.S tour on the horizon? Well, duh! You write them an open letter on your blog. Like this:

Dear Hurts,

My name is Los Angelista and I'm writing to you from... you guessed it! Los Angeles! Anyway, now that we've got that all cleared up, I decided to write an open letter to you all to let you know that I'm not a stalker I'm enamored with your music and I think you should come to Los Angeles and do a show.

Your song "Wonderful Life" gets the Los Angelista "You're The Bombdizzle" award of the year. I like it so much that probably five out of your over six million YouTube views come from my IP address. OK, not really, but roll with me and my fun exaggerations.

I heard Wonderful Life awhile ago, I think on a BBC station that's on XM, and I was driving and had nothing to write with. Sorry, the miserable traffic made me forget the name of the song and the artist.

Fortunately, a couple months ago one of my fellow Depeche Mode fans came to the rescue and posted on an email list, "Check out this cool band that kinda sounds like Depeche."

I don't know about you, but if I was a musician, I'd be beyond honored to be compared to Depeche Mode. I've also heard Pet Shop Boys comparisons and sure, why not, they rock the house too. That said, you all have a distinct vibe and a depth that's all your own, and you should trust me when I tell you that you'll undoubtedly sell out venues in this city.

Yes, my backyard can double as a venue if need be. I'll even post signs that say, "I know you really want to throw them on stage, but please be dignified and leave on your undies." I swear, y'all are like the synthpop version of Maxwell so it will probably be difficult for the ladies to restrain themselves but we'll manage somehow.

Beyond the policing of ladies undergarments, I think you all could start a new trend of 1) guys dressing smart in fly suits, 2) melodic musical genius that sounds endlessly fresh, and 3) singers actually knowing how to sing.

Just imagine seeing your faces next to the headline, "The REAL death of auto tune".

Alas, I know how pricey tours are these days.I've been meaning to make a trip to Manchester but I have a feeling it's not going to happen in 2010. Or 2011. And since that pesky Mayan calendar says the world's going to end in 2012, I don't think I'm gonna get there then either.

Oh, and before I forget to mention it, call me weird but I happen to like your old video for Wonderful Life - yes the one that only cost 20 pounds to make.

I think it's much better than the souped up one that your record company probably paid for after they noticed you all were selling. I just hope you all don't give in to the slick marketing people and change too much before I get the chance to see you. Keep that down to earth spirit, stay true to your roots, and you'll do just fine.

Thanks for reading!

Your girl,

Los Angelista

P.S.: I have it on very good authority that December 29th is an awesome day to do a show in Los Angeles!

Their new video is similar but not as grimy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIJXqOvXb1A
On amazon.co.uk, one of the other tracks from their albumn 'Happiness' is available for free, though I'm not sure if you can get it in the U.S..:

K. Rock,
Aren't they fab! Glad to share them! ;)

A Simple Thing,
I'm absolutely jealous over your proximity to them! We can't watch the new video on youtube here in the States. It's blocked by Sony. I'm totally going to check and see if any of their tracks are free on Amazon here! thx!

Pretty good, but not exciting enough to get my 63-year-old blood system racing. And why do they need all those cavorting women in the background?

Nick,
That's why I like the original video best - only one dancing girl and it feels less "cavorting"! ;)
