The Randomness: Saturday Night Edition

I am officially an old lady. Saturday night comes and I can not WAIT to chill out. I'm just content to sit and contemplate all the stuff that's gone on over the past week. For example:

1) Japan: I can't wrap my head around the horror of what has happened and what is going on, minute to minute. Thanks to the TVs in House of Pies in Los Feliz, I saw the live feed of the tsunami hitting. Since then, I've watched tons of footage, watched the news, and read online, and it's heartbreaking. Really really praying for them.

2) Jane Eyre:
I went to see it at the ArcLight in Hollywood on Thursday night. Great acting, beautiful cinematography. You get such a phenomenal sense of "place" and of Jane's struggles. I want to see it again.

3) Spring Forward: Not a fan. I could really really use that extra hour of sleep.

4)
Last Tuesday was election day in Los Angeles: Less than 12 percent of Angelenos voted, and on Wednesday, I had the unfortunate pleasure of standing in line behind some sistas who were laughing about how, "I didn't even know it was election day yesterday. Who has time to vote? I have to work!" I guess they'd never heard of absentee ballots or going to the polls at 7 a.m. when they open. Ugh, I'm annoyed all over again. I can't stand people who don't vote, especially black folks. I really wanted to tell them that I'm sure their ancestors who fought for the right to vote are SO proud of the fact that they had no idea.

5) Commercial audio? Why must the audio on commercials be louder than the show I'm watching? Are the advertisers trying to make me go deaf? Or make me hit the "mute" button?

6) Mad Men isn't on: As far as I'm concerned, Mad Men should be on every single week. What is with this waiting ten million years for them to start taping again and for the show to come back on? Why not just turn into a daily soap opera? I know I'd watch every single day. I'd turn into one of those people who says, "Girl, I have to call you back. My story is on."

7) Dumb Trending Topics on Twitter: Do we really need stuff like "❒Single ❒Taken"? Maybe if I was in high school I'd be all excited about that, but um, no. Or how about today's "winner", #waystopissoffafatperson. Just juvenile. And cruel.

8) I'm sick of animated movies that act like they're for kids, but aren't really for kids: RANGO, I'm talking to you.

9) Why do people think teaching is easy? Just because you've been in a classroom as a student doesn't mean you have the chops to lead the class AND make sure kids learn. Give respect where it's due.

10) I hate annoying, unsolicited press releases: I know PR people have a tough life, but don't send me a release that has, "Send me the link to your post on X-topic when it goes live." Heck.to.the.no with your demanding tone. This is not that kind of party.

11) Lady Antebellum's name: I know it's been said before, but even though their music is OK, that name is a deal breaker. Antebellum means "before the war". The term is generally understood to refer to the time before the Civil War. Those were NOT good days for my people on either side. My Irish people had to leave Ireland because of that flippin' potato famine. My black people...well, they were slaves. No, there is NOTHING for me to celebrate about the Antebellum period.

12) Will Charlie Sheen go to rehab? He needs to. Just like Amy Winehouse, it's sad to see people with talent implode. And if it's mental health issues, not drugs/alcohol, someone get him some help.

13) 8 days till the LA Marathon: 26.2 miles, here I come! I'm so excited...and nervous. My fourth marathon and I still feel a mixture of "Can I do this?" and "Why the eff am I doing this?"...oh yeah, the MEDAL!

And with that, I'm going to sleep. Keep it real, people.

I think Congress just passed something which will make this stop.

#8: Alpha and Omega, I'm looking at you. It was 1.5 hours of animal copulation jokes--weird.

Mer,
I'm so glad to hear that the commercials might be forced to go to a normal volume level. It's seriously annoying. And really, Rango's producers should be ashamed to market it to kids. SO wrong.

Jasmin,
Whew, I guess it's a good thing that my boys didn't even ask to see that one!
hmmmm Don Draper (the sober version) needs to be at my house every week.

The Lady Antebellum name rubs me the wrong way too. Big time.

NYC/CR,
Definitely the SOBER version. The other one can stay in his cave bachelor apt!
