Def Leppard on the DL

I don't know what's up with me and my rediscoveries of 80s music. Specifically '80s new wave and rock. Specifically, Def Leppard. (Yes, the British boys who brought you Pyromania.) I felt bad for the Def Leppard drummer when I heard he'd lost his arm back in the day but I wasn't a huge fan of the group. I spent too many painful hours riding on the school bus next to annoying hair band wanna-bes to really be a fan and besides, I was too deep in the midst of my Depeche Mode and House Music love fest to really pay attention to any other kind of music.

Now, I am finding that I'm loving Def Leppard on the "Down Low" 20 years later than the rest of the world. I was driving down Michigan Avenue in Chicago last Tuesday, listening to one of those Jack FM stations that everyone seems to either love or hate. "Hysteria" came on the radio and before you know it, I'm singing along at the top of my lungs :

I gotta know tonight, if you're alone tonight
Can't stop this feelin', can't stop this fire

I know, I know. It's a shame. I'm a grown woman with two kids and I'm still "preoccupied with 1985."
