Post Cirque du Soleil Delusions of Grandeur

What is it about seeing people do this...
...that makes me think I can do the same?

I'm convinced there's a psychological phenomenon that happens when you're at a Cirque de Soleil show where, while you're watching the fabulous physical feats, you start thinking you too can contort, flip, balance and do the splits two stories in the air while holding on to two pieces of fabric.

I received some complimentary tickets to the show Quidam down at the Long Beach Convention Center, so I went with a friend on Wednesday night. She said the same thing--that watching the show made her think she can do the moves!

Never mind that I get motion sickness at the drop of a dime, while I'm watching, I begin believing I can twist and twirl on a wheel like this, right?
All delusions aside, Quidam's a magically artistic experience that doesn't disappoint. Like every Cirque show, it has fab live music, gorgeously designed costumes and skillful acrobatic performances. Actually, there's one part of this show that I didn't develop delusions of acrobatic grandeur over. The performers have a sequence where they double dutch jump rope, and of course, they take it to another level--and then push the performance to the "Are You Kidding Me?" level. It was the most intense double dutching I've ever seen, and since I've always been horrible at double dutching...no ma'am, I'm not even going to front like that would EVER be me.

If you're in the Los Angeles area, check it out. It's a good show--maybe not good for small children because there are a couple of parts where the costuming might be a little scary for smaller kids, but it's perfect for date night. I know it's in the LBC again on Sunday, and then it heads out to Ontario till May 1st. Plus, if you go to the one in Long Beach, they have CHURROS for sale at one of the concession stands!

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I took my mom to see Quidam in Long Beach on Saturday, and the show was amazing. I had double-dutch envy too during the jump rope sequence, especially since, growing up, I was considered "double handed" and never asked to play. They make it all seem so effortless.

Looking forward to your next adventure.

They got churros? Hey, I'm there, Liz. Churros would make it all worthwhile.

Nicole,
Hey, glad you de-lurked! I'm a MAJOR failure at double dutch so I never got asked to play either! :)

Ian,
LOL, it's a good thing I don't know how to make homemade churros. My pants wouldn't fit!
