101 Hours Last Week But I STILL Went To The Depeche Mode Convention

As you can see, I'm still alive.

Week two of my oh so grueling work schedule is in full swing. I worked 101 hours last week and even though at times I thought my head might explode, I decided to go to the Depeche Mode Convention on Sunday night.

Seriously, even in the midst of the busiest schedules, I really believe you have to put the most important things first. And we all know, in my life, Depeche Mode is up there in importance. Eradicate educational inequity, sure. But being in a room full of crazy Depeche Mode fans certainly can make you energized and ready for

Sounds like you are squeezing every bit of stuff into your schedule. Your time management skills must be super duper!

OK. But you never said what happened with crazy foot fetish man?!
So...you won't let us in on the thrilling conclusion to the foot tale from before?
I definitely met you when you were on the east coast. Now I have proof. You do not remember me though, but I'm not taking it personally.

@Liz:

DAAAANNNNNGGGG, you got to see Depeche Mode!! The only way I would be more jealous of you right now is if you saw “Kraftwerk”!

“Never again, is what you swore, the times before!!!”

Daaannngggg!
They say one picture is worth a thousand words.

This one explains why you can't go out in public without guys drooling on you, buying you flowers, and driving their cars into lampposts.

You need some serious bodyguard action, but I'm so glad you got to do something wonderful and rewarding.

You look good for working 101 hours and having to kids and a man....how do you do it...because I look like dog doo doo and I only work 40 hours with a baby and a toddler...
Here's a thought...write a book called "the secret: from Liz" trust me...it'll do better than the other "the secret" book!

Everyone,
I had a moment yesterday to reply to your comments...and when I clicked "Publish Your Comment", all my responses went into the electronic black hole. So frustrating when that happens! Anyway, I have some free time today so here's take two!

Jon,
Yes, I'm a master squeezariffic scheduler these days. I do have pretty good time management skills, but even with that, working the long hours is necessary just because of the sheer amount of work that needs to be done. The light at the end of the tunnel is almost here though. July 1st, things will be back to a somewhat normal schedule.

Mamita & Moon,
You want the conclusion to my adventure with Mr. Foot Fetish? Here's the short version:

I scooted my chair away a bit, too far for him to be able to comfortably stretch his foot and reach me. Then, the teacher I was meeting with said she needed to go to the bathroom. She gets up and Mr. Pervert says, "The end of the school year is pretty busy for you, huh?"

I said, "Yes, yes it is," without making eye contact. I started to wonder if maybe I do have a stalker from this blog, someone who lurks online and then managed to track me down in real life.

He continued to talk, "So do you always meet people here in this Barnes and Noble?"

And that's when, creeped out or not, I said, "I know you were trying to put your foot on mine and that's not ok."

His response? "What, what are you talking about?" He started turning really red, started sputtering denials." I just kept repeating myself till he finally picked up his stuff and left.

It was totally weird and when I left the B&N at 10:30 that night, I was so worried there'd be some large white van or something waiting for me in the parking lot. Thank goodness there wasn't.

So that's the thrilling end of my tale. I wish I had time to describe him in all of his fat, sweaty, greying gruesomeness.

Phillipe,
Oh no! Why don't I remember meeting you? I know I have a bad memory about this kind of stuff, but still, I feel like I should remember. Ok, I'm glad you aren't taking it personally! :)

Jameil,
By the time Sunday morning hit, I honestly thought my schedule might kill me. I really did. But I'm still alive and I owe it all to going to the Depeche Mode convention. I figured that if I didn't go, then I'd be resentful the entire week of all the work I had ahead of me. Maybe next year I can write a testimonial for the convention. "Stressed out? On edge? This convention will save your life."

DJBA
You're a Mode fan? YEAH! But no, they weren't at the convention. I wish! The convention is really an opportunity for all the thousands of SoCal fans to get together, swap concert stories, dance around to "Master and Servant" and listen to DM cover bands. One band called Blasphemous Rumours dresses up as Depeche Mode and then performs as them. They actually were pretty good. You can also pick up lots of Mode merchandise and there were the contests like, "Dance like Depeche Mode". It was so fun! I don't know if they do a convention in any other city so I guess it's one more reason I love living in LA. And it would be cool to see Kraftwerk. I wish!

Heart
LOL! I don't know if you'd have this reaction if I'd posted the other pictures I took where I look like a total Depeche Mode nerd/dork. This photo might just be the most flattering of the bunch. But still, the compliment does my tired self a bit of good. :)

Gyamfua
Why thank you for saying I look good! :) That "Secret" book does seem like the biggest scam of the year, doesn't it? I guess I could write a book where I'd say that my "secrets" are that I don't drink, don't smoke, I'm a vegetarian, and I listen to Depeche Mode. I bet I could call it "The Depeche Mode Diet" and it would sell millions.

Kari,
So far this week I am at 87 hours and it feels like a light work week in comparison to last week. But, Sunday is almost here! I'm not going to know what to do with myself next week when I'm not running around like crazy!

You look fabulous for someone who is obviously being worked to death. Glad you took some depeche mode time to rejuvenate.

Yolanda,
I knew if I didn't go I'd be totally resentful of my schedule. And goodness, you all are just way too kind with the compliments! I appreciate it! :)

No single person other than the president should work as much as you. I'm glad that you got a chance to treat yourself to a night out.

Keith,
For some reason, I highly doubt that our president works as much as me, but I know what you mean! ;)

Yay for you, taking time for yourself! :)

Velvet,
You know, I'm especially happy that I went because my situation with my job has changed, and I would have really resented missing this. Just another reminder that it's so critical to put first the things that really matter and are important.

I thought I was the only black Depeche Mode fan in the world! Its' good to see there are others. I haven't heard anyone mention them since my middle school days :)

I 've enjoyed reading your blog and decided to say hello instead of lurking.

Feel free to drop by my blog anytime- it's mostly about my daughter (age 3).

Alycia,
Three cheers for de-lurking! I'm so glad you decided to say hello! Sometimes I also feel like the only black DM fan...I think there might have been one other person at the LA concert! My husband says I go beyond being a fan into the realm of unhealthy obsession, but I just remind him that he should be grateful I have no other real vices. :)

I'll definitely come by to check out your blog. My youngest is three so I'm sure we're going through the same parenting stuff!
