Swazi Balla's

According to the Electronic Urban Report:

Ruler of impoverished country to throw million-dollar birthday bash.

*As Swaziland continues to battle crippling poverty and the world’s highest AIDS infection rate, according to UN AIDS agency, the region’s King Mswati III, Africa's last absolute monarch, will celebrate his 37th birthday next month with a $1.7-million bash, reports AFP. Mswati, who has ruled Swaziland by decree since he ascended to the throne in 1986 at the age of 18, is known for the extravagant lifestyle that he, his 11 wives and two teenage fiancees lead. In December, Mswati bought himself a $500,000 Daimler Chrysler flagship Maybach 62. More than 65 percent of Swaziland's 1.2 million people live on less than one dollar a day and some 200,000 people depend on food hand-outs to survive in the kingdom. According to UN estimates, Swaziland has the world's highest per capita rate of HIV infection at 38.8 percent. Mswati come under pressure from South Africa earlier this month when President Thabo Mbeki invited the king for talks in Pretoria to try to push him towards democratic reforms.

Now, as millions of Angelenos continue to battle crippling poverty, we will flock to view another episode of the "Fabulous Life of..." on VH1. I guess our government can spend MILLIONS on an inauguration here in the U.S. but not raise the minumum wage to decrease the extremes of wealth and poverty here in this country.
