39 Sex Offenders
I took a vacation day today and spent some time with dear O and T. Unfortunately, we are in the midst of another torrential downpour so it was overcast and rainy most of the day. There was a break from the showers in the afternoon so we went out to play. I had a great time chasing them, playing "zombie" and twirling them in the air. I came back inside to catch the headlines on tv: Sex Offenders, how many are living in your neighborhood. I logged on and googled "Megan's Law".
Next thing you know, I'm discovering that there are 39 offenders in my zip code, one three buildings down the street...big blue boxes are multiple offenders at the same location. And we have a few of those within 3/4 of a mile. I was horrified to see just how many people there are who are around here...and I started typing in more zip codes...it's as you would expect, more people in low-income areas where housing is more affordable.
Jenny called me on my cell while I was doing it. I typed in her home address in Pasadena vs the address of the school she teaches at north of the 210...boy, it was a world of difference. She had some, but the closest was at least 1/2 a mile away. Around the school though...there were tons. I got curious, wondering if there were any offenders living down the street from my mom and dad...there are 232 offenders...the closest is 7 blocks from my parents.
If you've seen my blog, you know it's littered with pictures of my little boys...and it terrifies me to think that these predators are around here.
