Fortunate Menu

The fortune I chose:
Throw the dice, read your fate, pass the night in secrecy...as long as you take care.
Games of chance only bring the hidden to the fore, revealing secrets.
Enjoy but be watchful for mystery holds you close.
The wind, unlike land, moves about of its own accord.
Land brings wealth yet the wind remains unrestrained.
Which will you choose?
You cannot lose if you do not play, but neither can you win.

Tonight I drove out to Whittier to eat dinner at Rose's house with her, Dottie, and Jenny. Even though it was a bit of a drive, (101-10-605 fwys) and I definitely hit some traffic on the way there, it's worth it when you are going to hang out with people you like. Jenny was the chef and did the cooking, except for dessert. Here's the menu:

Starter:
Edamame with Kosher Salt
Appetizer:
Shrimp/Tofu Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce
Entree:
Brown Rice with Sugar Snap Peas and Mushroom Stir-Fry
Dessert:
Twix Brownie topped with Vanilla Ice-Cream
Drinks:
Tea
I brought the tea, my Chinese teapot and wrote fortunes. Everyone picked the one I had intended, even though we picked randomly. I guess the "original caller-id" still has her touch. Truly, I should know to leave the supernatural alone, or at least not think about it. Dottie scared me when she recounted what has been happening to her at her apartment building. She has come home several times to find either her tv or her lights on. Or, her locks are bolted when she didn't leave them that way. She is living near 7th and Union, close to downtown and she said that the area is rife with prostitution. It gave me the creeps since I watched the Dateline NBC show about the Green River Killer last night. Not that I want to get into thinking about statistics on serial killers or anything, but it is freaky.
